A word about Winter Weather conditions and Swim practice!

Every family’s safety is of utmost concern; this includes swimmers, parents and coaches.  We take the approach that everyone lives next door to the pool and if the coach can get to the pool there will be a practice.  We do not want anyone to jeopardize their safety by driving in hazardous conditions; high school swimmers or parents.  Each family must make this decision on their own when conditions are questionable.  School closings/delays do not dictate whether practice’s are on or off, however, in the event of level 2 or 3 snow emergencies practices may be appropriately cut short and/or cancelled.  There have been times when extreme cold weather (sub zero) for extended periods of time has caused the JC pool to be closed due to ice build up inside the roof.  This is rare, but not unusual.

All cancellations will be posted on the front page and of the website and e-mailed via the team webmail system.

WAC Senior Swimmer Kate McNeilis signed her national letter of intent today and accepted a full ride athletic scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  As the 2009 Ohio High School State Champion and current State Record holder in the 100 Back, Kate was one of the most highly recruited high school swimmers in the country.  Kate has had her share of exciting experiences over the last 15 months; winning a gold medal while representing the U.S. on the National Junior Team in Vancouver, British Columbia last May, racing to two consolation finals in the 100 and 200 Backstroke at the 2009 World Championship Trials and competing in the 2008 Olympic Trials are some of her major performances.  She will graduate from Dublin Scioto High School, (Coach Mike DeBear) to join the Lady Vols, the likes of which produced Christine Magnuson, 2008 NCAA Champion in the 100 butterfly, double silver medalist in the 2008 Olympic Games and 2009 US National Champion!  Best of luck to Kate as she journeys into an exciting collegiate career.

Six WAC swimmers represent Ohio at the Central Zone Championships held in Noblesville, Indiana August 6th - 9th.
Team Members pictured above include Madeline Kramer, Marissa Kramer, Atticus Jordan, Jared Higdon, Madeline Grubbe and Anne Marie Cummins.  These swimmers had the opportunity to swim with other swimmers from around the state competing both individually and on relays.  The Zone experience allows WAC athletes to join forces with the swimmers they compete against all year long and race swimmers from neighboring states.  Our swimmers recorded life time best swims and helped several relays score as Team Ohio finished 3rd behind Illinois and Indiana and ahead of the Ozark Association, Lake Erie, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

14 WAC Swimmers Qualify to State Championships in 24 Events!

Camey Rabold, Jenny Demjanenko, Lauren Rosenberg, Kate McNeilis, Michele Rielly, Haley Agee, Taylor Schwartz, Jenna Young, Drew Thompson, Chris Downing, Jay Haney, Jackson Humphrey, Aaron Norris, and Ben Bailey combined efforts as the largest number of individual qualifiers to the State HS Championships in our clubs history!  WAC’s mission is to provide the opportunity for every child to pursue excellence within the sport of swimming. It is a strict belief of the Head Coach Jim Peterfish that in order for a young person to develop fully as an individual they must prioritize their family, school and faith above their athletic endeavors. If swimming plays an important fourth in their lives they will be able to pursue excellence in swimming while also developing mentally and spiritually

Simply stated, the goals set forth for all WAC swimmers in order of importance include:
Have fun
Swim well
Swim fast

The role of youth sports is to provide experiences which enhance the total social, emotional and physical development of each individual.  Swimming provides that positive environment in which each athlete can take advantage of the opportunities presented, and develop to the fullest of his or her potential.

Team selection and organization:
Selection of athletes is from the list of families in good standing and based on group availability only. Every attempt will be made to accept all athletes while maintaining quality conditions for current members. All athletes will represent WAC through the championships of the current season. Dual or split representation with another USA swimming team by the swimmer or family is by permission of the head coach only. This does not apply to summer swim clubs, high school, YMCA or college teams.
Swimmers are placed into one of several groups appropriate for their age and ability level. They may be advanced at any time during the season as deemed advantageous to their progress. Original placement and advancement is strictly the role of the Head Coach or Head Age Group coach.

Family member status:
To become a member in good standing, a registration agreement must be signed and returned with other registration materials. Adherence to the registration agreement while maintaining current fee status will keep a family in good standing. Swimmers group fees should be paid on the posted due date. Unpaid fees are subject to late fee penalties. Swimmers will not be entered in any upcoming competitions if balance is past due 30 days. Accounts past due 45 days will result in loss of training privileges. Total season fees must be paid in full for a swimmer to return.
